If you’re struggling with sexual sin, you need to know that you’re not alone. There are millions of people who are struggling right there alongside of you.
Having dealt with many of these issues ourselves, our staff has put together a list of the best tools and practices to help you in your fight.
Here are the things that have helped us most:
1. Lock Down The Source
To stop looking at porn, you’ve got to slam the door on the ways that you normally access porn. This might mean getting rid of certain devices, or having someone else lock them down with a passcode, or setting up some sort of an accountability program that monitors your history and sends it to a person of your choosing. As a staff, we all use Covenant Eyes on our phones, tablets, etc. It works really well and we actually have a church discount code that you can use. Once you’ve got it installed, you’ll need to take a few more steps, but here is a guide for setting it up on iPhone and Android.
2. Take The 40 Day Challenge
Download the app “Overcome Porn: 40 Day Challenge.” Just search “overcome” in the app store and it should come up. This app gives you short videos to watch or articles to read every day for 40 days, and gives you a place to log how well you’ve been doing and see your progress over time.
3. Talk To Someone
Satan’s main tactic is to get you feeling alone, isolated, and ashamed, but bringing it to the light destroys his power. We’ve never seen anyone overcome this alone, but we have seen many overcome through the strength that comes by walking through this together. Find a close friend or family member that you trust, and ask them to keep you accountable. Or, feel free to talk to anyone on our staff, and we promise not to uncover you, or share your secret with anyone. We just want to partner with you and help you through this. You also might want to check out Celebrate Recovery which meets every Tuesday at First Baptist Church.
